PP bead separator - the 'invisible gatekeeper' on the tire production line

In the tire manufacturing process chain, the bead and apex rubber need to be temporarily stored or directly sent to the molding machine after extrusion, cutting, and joint. The surface of uncured raw rubber has strong viscosity, and multi-layer stacking is prone to adhesion and deformation under pressure. Once the tire bead section is out of roundness or the size deviates, it will ultimately lead to poor tire uniformity or even excessive dynamic balance. To address this pain point, PP Bead Spacer/Apex Plastic Disc has been extensively introduced into the triangular rubber shaping and bead storage processes of modern tire factories.

1、 Structure and material characteristics

The PP tire bead pad is usually a disc-shaped injection molded part with a large through-hole in the center for easy gripping and positioning by a robotic arm. The outer circumference is equipped with flanges or reinforcing ribs to form an independent tire bead receiving cavity. The curved surface contour is matched with the bead curvature according to the tire specifications (commonly 13 "~22"), and some models are designed with micro protrusions or radiating ribs on the bottom surface to increase rigidity and reduce the contact area of the rubber material.

The material selected is modified copolymer polypropylene (PP), which has the following key indicators after impact resistance modification and nano filler reinforcement:

Vicat softening point: controlled at 135-145 ℃, matched with the vulcanization heat process - providing rigid support to prevent tire bead displacement in the early stage, and facilitating demolding and separation with temperature response in the later stage;

The impact strength of the simply supported beam gap is ≥ 8.5 kJ/m ², which can withstand the instantaneous impact of high-speed grasping by the robotic arm of the automated production line without brittle fracture;

Bending strength: The key stress point should not be less than 38 MPa, and topology optimization should reduce weight by about 15%;

Surface micro texture: Micro textures with a depth of 10-20 μ m can form micro air cushions during the vulcanization stage, assisting in exhaust and reducing adhesive risks.

2、 Core process function

Physical isolation and anti adhesion: During the stacking and storage of steel wire triangular adhesive, partitions are inserted layer by layer to block direct contact between the raw adhesive and prevent interpenetration and adhesion of the adhesive caused by self weight compression.

Forming and shape preservation: The arc-shaped contour cavity of the partition imposes constraints on the tire bead to prevent the fine and high triangular rubber from curling or elliptical deformation during static cooling, ensuring the accuracy of subsequent molding.

Heat resistant and anti adhesive: Modified PP has low surface energy and good temperature resistance. It does not chemically bond with uncured rubber under short-term heating conditions of triangular rubber, and achieves "zero residue" peeling after removal and placement.

Logistics compatibility: The standardized disc structure is compatible with automatic stacking systems and AGV transportation, and the central through-hole is matched with pneumatic suction cups to achieve high-speed picking, making it an indispensable tooling accessory for intelligent tire factories.

3、 Selection and Green Cycle

In practical use, it is necessary to select the corresponding groove and flanging depth of the partition according to the diameter of the tire bead and the height of the triangular rubber, and pay attention to distinguishing between the "shaping plate" (with a curved surface for triangular rubber shaping) and the "simple isolation plate" (flat with shallow flanging, only used for storage separation).

Compared to traditional disposable paper isolation pads, Apex Holder can be recycled, crushed, and pelletized. After secondary modification, the mechanical performance retention rate can still reach over 85% of the new material, which meets the dual demands of carbon reduction and cost reduction in the tire industry.

The seemingly inconspicuous PP tire bead partition is actually a key tool to ensure the geometric accuracy of the tire bead and improve the qualification rate of tire uniformity. With the increasing automation level of tire production lines, the requirements for their dimensional tolerances, thermal response characteristics, and cycle life will continue to upgrade. High performance modified PP separators are gradually replacing traditional consumables and becoming an important part of the lean manufacturing system for tires.
